Christmas greetings from Fremantle, Australia π¦πΊππ where it is 28C and very sunny! Itβs weird seeing Christmas decorations and hearing carols in these temperatures!
Thank you very much for your amazing support as I completed leg 3, the Southern Ocean. It was a terrifying, awesome, tiring, and scary experience. But we saw amazing sunsets, sunrises, rainbows, stars, the Milky Way, magical albatross, petrels, sootyβs and other unidentifiable birds. Sadly no whales yet! Wishing you all the best for the new year 2020 with love from Rach.
What an achievement! She should be hugely proud of having survived physically and mentally. There can be no greater challenge on earth and so few people who have been prepared to take on the task. Three cheers for Rachel. Hip hip hooray! One brave lady!
Rachel has arrived safely and has suffered no further injuries. She is tired and has bruises, but is very pleased to have made it without further upset. Her cheek is still sore from her fall before Cape Town. This leg was also very difficult! Even brushing your teeth took 15 minutes and involved bruises. There is some damage to the boat which needs to be repaired. She is hoping this will not delay departure any further. The current plan is still to sail 2 days after the main fleet and to be racing based on elapsed times. As I talked to her on the phone she was sharing a box of chips with Su and enjoying them immensely. She is hoping to share accommodation with Su, which is great. There has been talk of 40 degree temperatures in Oz, but fortunately not on the coast. Warm enough to be in t shirts though! Not much rest allowed. Deep clean of boat starts soon. She is still collecting her thoughts and I will talk to her again later. Perhaps we will get further insights then.
It was very difficult not to be part of this leg’s race. This lost some of the meaning for all the effort. I have noted, however, that Sanya are still in the top 4 for points with a joker in hand. They are still in there with a possible top 3 podium position at some stage.
